23. april reflection:research processI was dreading to start the research process, but when I finally got the courage to begin, I got so attached to it that I just had to go on.
I was very happy to find a way to use the library homepage from my home, so I started with the library. Britannica Encyclopedia was really useful, along with the journals attached to it. I also fell in love with Jster and Google Scholar. I can't believe I missed out all these useful resources all this time... and very happy that I'm learning about them.
The research result wasn't a complete satisfactory, but it was fun to "mine" through the internet, opening and closing pages, and the excitement when I found something useful once in a while was such a pleasure.
P.S. I also used the resources above to prepare for my open-book mid term exams. Again, Grrrrreat!!! 20. april Uh-oh...Important decision...
It's rather difficult for me to focus on the topic of the animal rights in China, because it's non-existant...Therefore, I decided to turn my head a little and focus on the history of animal protection legislation in one of the improved country, most likely the U.S. or somewhere in Europe. The main stream would be informative, showing what they have gone through to legislate animal welfare issues. I COULD still refer to the state that China is in, to compare and show the big difference, but I would like to keep the "lack of animal protection law in China" as a secondary topic, and focus more on the other, already-existing animal protection law of the world.
Hmm.. I don't like this feeling of giving in to the difficulties of researching.. But I have to admit, the original plan, if I had any, was just so uncertain when there was nothing to compare or criticize or encourage, etc. Nothing. Sorry if I made any of you observers disappointed...T^T... 12. april Reflection-searching for topicIt really wasn't an easy job, searching for topic.
I never had a chance to pick a topic and start a research, let alone write a topic about it. The topic was always given by the teacher. So this time, when I finally got the chance to set a topic for myself, it brought a great pressure as well as pleasure, because I knew no matter what I get, it's all my responsibility.
I think when looking for a topic, it's important to narrow it down. You can start by just questioning about whatever interests you, but eventually you have to narrow it down to certain level, so you can come up with a thesis statement, a main point of the whole paper. This is also the part that I have a trouble with. I never know how to specify my topic, it's just a big concept:Animal(Pet) Protection Law in China.
I think writing a thesis statement is a great help to me.Should keep working harder...
P.S. I can't get into the School Library. Probably because I live outside of school...How troublesome... 30. mars the very first presentationI gave my first presentation today!!!
OK, fine, it wasn't exactly a 'presentation' as a 'talk'...
I didn't prpare for it like the others, which made me feel..embarrassed. no visual, no script.
But it wasn't that bad, actually. I managed to make everyone smile, at least. hahaha.
I was kind of nervous at first but it slowly wore off. It even felt fun to talk to everyone in the end.
Hopefully my presentation skills will get better as well as my writing skills.
P.S. Thanks for the advise and questions everyone!!! Interview/ questions and answers1.Interview.
I had to wait for a long time before it was my turn to talk to my 民法teacher,副教授 王轶。Even after class, there are alot of students standing around him, asking questions and debating loudly. When I finally told him about the English Academic Writing class and the topic I wanted to write about, he agreed that China has a long way to go to achieve protection for small animals, although he confided that his understanding in this area is rather small. He also knew about the cat-murdering pictures on the internet, and admitted that the law is too limited to stop it. Being an busy man he is, he didn't have time to talk for longer than 5 minutes, but he said I can come to him whenever i need to discuss about the problems, so i feel like i have a strong base to depend on now. I should try to talk to him when i have more information.
2.Question.
What kind of animal protection laws are there in China?
--->There are 5 sections and 42 rules in <中华民国野生动物保护法>. There is NO law to protect pets, small animals whatsoever.
I found an advisary article about how to protect your pets from getting poisoned:"...给您的小狗上户口,使它成为法律保护的对象。由于我国没有家养动物保护法,只能将宠物认定为个人财产,以利于保护其合法权益..."
That was easy. so the only animal protection law there is in China is for wild animals, and this is far from finding animal rights. I don't know if it sounds silly, but animals are just as alive as humans, and they should have their rights. I think this research is going to be really interesting. |
